Are plastic straws really worth the damage they do to the planet?
Recycling isn’t as green as you think it is.
It takes a lot of energy to recycle plastic.
There are thousands of kinds of plastic, but to make it easy, consumers put all their plastics into one or two bins. Recycling centers have to sort, chop, clean and compress plastic. All of this takes a lot of energy.
Dyes in plastics can be hazardous
Sometimes hazardous plastics can get mixed in with recyclable plastics. When this happens, an entire batch of recylced plastics can be deemed unusable and thrown into a landfill.
